Bowie Bash: Amplified

January 5 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Kick off Philly Loves Bowie Week with NLM’s 4th Annual Bowie Bash, featuring live music, a cash bar, themed activities, and more. The evening will be hosted by Eric13, a singer, guitarist, DJ, and original member of Philly’s All Star Tribute Band Candy Volcano, and will feature performances by Patrick Bamburak, Chris Huff, Shannon Turner, Rumi Kitchen, Kevin Monko with Lance Comet of Candy Volcano,and Flash Jordan with Wurli. 

Bowie Bash coincides with the opening of NLM’s Bowie-inspired pop-up gallery and art sale, featuring local and national artists celebrating the liberating power of David Bowie, his persona, and related iconography and showcasing his impact on the worlds of music and performance. The pop-up gallery and art sale will be open through April 8th; a portion of the proceeds from all art sales will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), in partnership with Philly Loves Bowie Week. 

Enhance your visit and purchase a VIP ticket to attend the private preview reception for our newest exhibition, Amplified: Art, Music, Power, which celebrates music as an expression of liberty and a catalyst for personal and societal transformation. Your ticket provides access to a first look at the exhibition, meet-and-greet with exhibition artists, complimentary lite fare, and an open bar from 6 pm – 7 pm. The reception will also feature DJ John Morrison of WXPN spinning a curated set of music inspired by the exhibition.

Meet the Performers

Eric13 is a singer, guitarist, songwriter, live streamer, DJ and event host from Philadelphia. Many know him as the long-standing guitar player in electro-industrial band Combichrist, or from his popular streaming channels on Instagram and Twitch. Among many gigs in 2023, Eric13 was the Host and Master of Ceremonies at the Dark Malta Music Festival on the Mediterranean island of Malta. He has performed DJ sets in France, Italy, England, Argentina, and Mexico, as well as in Philadelphia and New York City. Eric also performed his own new, original play BOWIECHURCH in both Philadelphia and Hannover, Germany. He’s been a part of Philly Loves Bowie Week each year of its existence, either with his own play or as an original member of Philly’s All Star Bowie Tribute Band Candy Volcano. Patrick Bamburak is a veteran recording artist, touring musician, songwriter, producer, actor, radio personality and founding member of the bands bait-oven and Funhaus. He recently released his second full-length solo album Digital on API Records, which is available on iTunes/Apple Music and Amazon. Patrick is an on-air radio personality, hosting Patrick Bamburak’s Night Music, which broadcasts Fridays, from 10pm to Midnight Eastern, on NEWHD New York Streaming Radio, www.newhdmedia.com. Patrick also produces and hosts numerous interview programs published by NEWHD Media including Patrick Bamburak’s Night Music, Zach Martin Rocks!, and Indie Café 2wo.

Chris Huff is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer living in Philadelphia. He has performed on stages as diverse as Carnegie Hall and CBGBs and with artists as diverse as Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul, & Mary), Echo and The Bunnymen, Chuck Hammer (Lou Reed/David Bowie), and Broadway composer Tom Kitt (Next To Normal) and lyricist Amanda Green (Hands On A Hardbody with Trey Anastasio). His associations with David Bowie include writing liner notes for the Live And Well album and playing a Bowienet picnic in 1999, which Bowie had someone film and afterward told him, “You were incredible, I love the way you sing my songs.” Here’s to our sweet Sailor. Flash Jordan (aka Kevin Wayne Jordan) is a multi-disciplined artist living in Philadelphia and practiced in singing, acting, sewing, painting, design and construction.

Rumi Kitchen (he/him) is a Germantown, Philadelphia-based singer, writer, producer, performer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist. He is best known for his work with the cosmic funk rock band OOLALA, absurdist funk and soul group Johnny Showcase and the Mystic Ticket, the psychedelic folk collective The Spinning Leaves, his stint on the TV show America’s Got Talent, and for his vegetable skewers cooked over an open fire. He will wow your socks off.

Impresario and dilettante Kevin Monko sings and plays guitar with Candy Volcano, the glam rock extravaganza he co-founded 11 years ago after a lifetime of only playing original music, primarily with his band MONKO. The last few years have found him contributing to tribute shows for Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Harry Nilsson, The Last Waltz, The Beatles/Stones Invitational, and most recently with Cabinet of Curiosities, the songs of Tom Waits. He longs for a Charming Snakes reunion.

Shannon Turner (she/they) is a singer/actor and Philadelphia’s resident cabaret human about town. She is one half of Philly’s Best Cabaret Duo, Glitter and Garbage (Best of Philly 2019) along with Lili St. Queer. Shannon is a vocal coach and was named “Best of Philly” by Philadelphia Magazine in July of 2023. You can DM them for a session on IG @Shantasm29.

John Morrison is a writer, DJ, and sample-flipper from Philadelphia. As a writer, his work has appeared in NPR Music, Bandcamp Daily, Jazz Tokyo, Grammy.com, and more. He is also the host of Culture Cypher Radio, a hip-hop radio show on NPR member station WXPN.

Adam McGovern has read at the international Dodge Poetry Festival, Brooklyn’s Human Head Performance Group Salon, the NYC Poetry Festival, Jimmy’s no. 43 in the Lower East Side, the Belarusian Consulate, and Preach Open Mic in Dover, NJ. His poetry installation/performances LifeLines and Safe Distances were in residence at the Dysfunctional Collective house, Governors Island, in 2016 and 2017. Adam’s poetry has appeared in Long Shot and on The Rumpus and HiLobrow. He is also a comicbook writer, professional semiotician and old-school Philadelphia boy (1966-68; 1970-76; 202?).
